Okay... my hands are like purple right now. I am freezing. They
blast the AC here in the computer room. It probably doesn't help that my hair
is wet. Ummm... sitting next to me there is a crazy dude on speaker phone
talking to customer service. He is super loud and very very frustrated. I have
a habit of typing the things that I am listening to so if i start typing
expletives you will know why. HA. Ummm this week was a good week! I am trying
to think of things that are exciting this week. Lets see what I can come up
with... this week was kinda boring besides Ashleys baptism!
ASHLEY
So this week we got a phone call from Ashley saying that she was
in the hospital. We were super sketched out because she said that her amniotic
fluid was leaking. She was worried that she was going to deliver early. But we
had a much of other missionaries and members praying for her and she was
released from the hospital later that day! Thank goodness she was okay. We went
over to give her her onzie and she was SO funny about it. We put it in a
wedding dress bag to make it more fancy. I took a picture of Sister M revealing
it to her. It was hilarious to see her reaction. I mean those onzies are so
unflattering on a normal person let alone a pregnant woman! She was hilarious
trying it on.
We were so excited about her getting baptized. We had a good
turn out! We had a really powerful prayer with her right before she wa about to
be baptized. And the spirit was so strong! At the beginning of the baptism I
was tempted to stand up there and tell everyone that she had been in the
hospital and that was why she had all these horribly bruises all up and down
her arms from the needles and IV's that had been pushed into her. She kinda
looked like she got in a fight with a drug dealer haha. She made a few jokes
about it. It was cool to think of her physical body being imperfect but as soon
as she came up from the water she was as perfect and innocent as her baby
inside her. In my talk at her baptism I said that it was neat that she can now
celebrate two birthdays. September 21st will always be a special day for her!
It was a cool way to think about baptism.
CONTROL FREAK
Remember Sister M's prayer about Devon after we rescued her dog?
"We not only save dogs, but we also save souls..." Ring any bells?
Well we finally were able to teach Devon the first lesson! It went really well
and she came to church this week. I have learned that I am a TOTAL control
freak. I never thought that I was but the only time this happens to me is when
I #1 do my laundry. #2 have investigators at church. I will go into #1 in more
detail later on. But #2... man... it was clear as day to me yesterday. Devon
came to church, we sat down next to a member who we had decided would be a good
fellowshipper. WELL... no one talked to her. There were babies crying, kids
screaming and playing with trucks, people coughing, babies crawling up onto the
stand... oh mercy. It was so loud that I could barely hear. I knew
that Devon was having a hard time listening. I looked over at her and her eyes
were squinted and she looked like she was in pain. (Not the ideal facial
expression you'd like your golden investigator to have...) Plus she has hearing
loss from the military so I am pretty sure that she hardly got two words out
the meeting and it was SUCH a good meeting. I was just praying the entire time
that the kids would be quiet, that the spirit would work inside Devon and that
I would be able to CHILL. I had the biggest headache after sacrament meeting.
Sister M (who had been sitting with Ashley) looked at me and was like,
"What is wrong?" I was so frustrated that I couldn't even
answer.
Devon left early and I just sat there and thought and prayed
about WHY I was so frustrated. I decided that it was because I didn't have
enough faith in the spirit. If Devon needed it to be dead quiet during a
certain talk, god would make it that way. If Devon was ready to hear and feel
the spirit that strongly, the god would have let it. I just have to keep
telling myself that everything happens for a reason. And man, it is frustrating
as a missionary. I talked to Ashley after and she said that she would love to
come to a lesson with us and help Devon. Ashley told us that she remembers
feeling that way. I remember Ashleys first sunday there was a little boy with
Turrets and I remember thinking how awful of a meeting that was. BUT Ashley
came back the next week, and back the next week and now shes baptized! I mean..
i just have to have faith that the lord knows what he is doing. That is just
one lesson I have learned from my mission so far. But man.. let me just tell
you... All you members out there. If you see a missionary with someone that you
dont know PLEASE go introduce yourself to the person PLEASE. You will be the
missionaries favorite people. I promise.
THE ONLY WAY TO HELP PEOPLE FIND THIS GOSPEL IS THROUGH MEMBERS.
YA'LL ARE THE KEY. DO IT.
RANDOMS
We did some yard work for service this week for the Fry's and I
have never sweat so much in my entire life. I kidd you not I had sweat dripping
off my nose and I couldn't see. It was terrible. Elder Gutierezz was like,
"DANG King, you hot or something?!" I sweat so so much. Sister M like
sweats a few drops but I am dripping.
-I taught Elder Guti what TMI (too much information) meant. He
died laughing. Oh his little Chilean accent is adorable. I just love him. We
also tried to teach him what sarcasm is. He says that has been such a strange
thing to adapt to since english is his second language. He said sarcasm is so
foreign to him. How do people in other places not use Sarcasm!? Like thats my
main go to for laughs!
- Sister M is SO grumpy at night and in the morning. Like its
baaad. We just don't talk for like the first and last hour of the day. Sister
Newhouse and Sister Folsom were both like that too! Do I like have a special
gift of waking up on the right side of the bed every morning? I guess so!
-We had an awesome lesson with Jamencia at the temple grounds
this week! It was really cool. Her Grandma is a member and she has been taking
the lessons from us. She is 15 and has been going to seminary every morning!
She has such a sweet spirit! She already considers herself Mormon. We sat
outside and taught her the plan of salvation. There was a full moon and the
spirit was super strong. I just love the temple. We are so blessed to have one
here in Houston! Speaking of Temples! We are going with Ashley on Thursday to
do baptisms! I am so excited!
K I can't feel my hands... I am signing off. They are literally
purple. Texans just love their AC.
ps. There was a cold front that came into Houston the other
night. When I think of cold front I think of like 50 degrees. Nope. It was 85
and goodness it was lovely to get a break from the heat.
church is true.
